Kevin (Dancer / Aerialist) is from Cleveland but relocated to Columbus to pursue his occupation as a high school Spanish teacher and further his training in his recently reignited passion for dance. He began his training primarily interested in Hip Hop where he has danced with Roman Element and beginning in the fall of 2013 with Step One All Stars. His step choreography has been featured in Xclaim productions. His other dance experiences include: West African, as well as learning some basics in ballet, hip hop, contemporary and recently, aerial with Kelsey Keller and various performances with Infinity Aerial. Last year Kevin dove back into dance as a trainee with Xclaim. Xclaim is his first experience with contemporary and jazz dance styles, but he has been an enthusiastic and dedicated participant. 2016-2017 is his fourth season. Kevin's interests include world travel and learning about other cultures.
Brett (Dancer) began his movement training in Bellefountaine Ohio where he attended Gloria's Tumbling for 9 years and was on a competitive team for 7 of those years. He then studied dance under the instruction of Lindy Chiles and taught an all boys hip hop class. Brett has attended various Master Classes in New York City to hone his craft. In 2011 Brett performed in the Orange Bowl Half Time Show, and was pictured in Bowl Games of America Magazine. Brett's natural ability and passion for dance are undeniable. He has been teaching dance for 6 years. Since 2013 Brett has shared his passion for dance with students as an instructor at eXtreme Dance Center in Wapakoneta, Ohio. This is his Second Season to take the stage with Xclaim!
Nia (Dance Trainee) has had an affinity for dance from an early age. She found her outlet through participating in dance team, show choir and musical theater. Nia began her technical training through Otterbein University in 2010. She is currently a student at The Ohio State University, pursuing a degree in International Relations with minors in Dance and Spanish. Her past performances include roles as a featured dancer in 12 musical productions including Children of Eden, Grease, High School Musical, Beauty and the Beast, and Footloose. At Ohio State Nia has studied jazz, modern, choreography, movement analysis and dance education. She is very excited dance again with Xclaim for her second season. Nia would like to thank her mother, friends and family for encouraging her passionate pursuit of dance.
(Dancer) Micaela has always been passionate about dance and movement. At the age of 12 she began her formal dance training on full scholarship with BalletMet Dance Academy in Columbus, OH. During her time with BalletMet she performed with their youth performance group YouthMet, as well as with their professional company in The Nutcracker. She went on to graduate from BalletMet’s Pre Professional Training program at age 17. After her years of dance training, Micaela's passion for dance and movement developed further into the teaching and fitness realm. She holds a Group Fitness Certification through NETA, is a Licensed Zumba® Instructor, teaches Yoga and works with people of all ages to broaden their movement capabilities and strength. She currently teaches dance to children in schools with Momentum Excellence, a local outreach program in Columbus. Micaela is excited to bejoining Xclaim for her very first season.
Brandia (Dancer) earned dual Bachelors of Arts in Human Kinesiology & Dance from Wittenberg University where she participated in study abroad at Fudan University in Shanghai, China. Dance has always been an integral part of her life, as she trained in various styles including ballet with Lee Edwards and Shir Lee Wu. Brandia also competed in Latin Ballroom with Bill Sparks Youth Ballroom DanceSport Academy (YBDSA) where she became a student teacher. During her time at Wittenberg, she formulated a workshop/demonstration for collegiate dancers to learn about injury prevention through cross training. Most recently, Brandia completed her Masters in Sports Science at Hofstra University, where she was able to combine her passions for dance, education, and medicine into a culminating project focusing on injury prevention for youth ballet dancers. Additionally, she was blessed with the opportunity to learn about dance administration while working at Peridance Capezio Center, taking classes from Sonya Tayeh, Kat Wildish, Jon Ole Olstad and others. Brandia is pursuing her career as a preventative medicine physician who will treat patients incorporating lifestyle modifications. This is Brandia's first season with Xclaim, and she is elated to perform.
Nikki (Dance Trainee) has a background in hip hop movement. She often travels to Atlanta and Chicago to hone her skills. She has taught hip hop classes at the ML Dance Academy and Patty Beery's School of Dance. Her notable performance credits include: Performing with John Legend in the “Be About It” Event, Powerfest (power1075 future concert)2015, Park Street Fest 2016, background dancer for local recording artists and with local hip hop groups Roman element, street angelz, and 3D urban dance crew. Nikki is excited to expand her dance knowledge to more classical forms. This is her first season joining the Xclaim stage!
Ella (Student Trainee) began dancing when she was 3 years old. A seventh grade homeschool student, she has studied dance at Ballet Academy of Moses Lake (Moses Lake, WA), Field of Dreams Performing Arts Conservatory (Raleigh, NC), Footsteps Family Dance Center (Columbus), BalletMet (Columbus) and most recently Charisma Center for the Arts. She has studied Classical Ballet, Pointe, Modern, Jazz, Musical Theater and Tap. Ella has also attended Summer Intensive at BalletMet. She has had the opportunity to dance in several renditions of The Nutcracker including BalletMet (Angel), Field of Dreams (Party Girl, Ginger, and Clara), and Ballet Academy of Moses Lake (Angel, Ginger). Additionally, she has performed in BalletMets Sleeping Beauty (Garland Girl), Coppelia (Village Girl, BAML), Jewels (Ruby, BAML), and various seasonal performances at her church. She is grateful for the opportunity to be in the Student Trainee Program with Xclaim.
Grace (Student Actor / Guest Artist) is a homeschooled 7th grader with a passion for acting, baking, and all things Audrey Hepburn. This is Grace's debut performance with Xclaim. She has previously appeared in Witness for the Prosecution and as a lead in Murder Takes the Stage with Good For Youth Theater based in Worthington, Ohio. Through Good For Youth, she has studied under directors Joy Tolle and Tom Krizo. When Grace isn't studying or acting, she can be found baking either at home or at Our Cupcakery in Dublin. She is honored to be a part of the Xclaim family.
Sara (Pickup Dancer/ Web Mistress/ Photographer) has been dancing since the age of 10. Her training has included classical ballet, modern, jazz, African, lyrical and ballroom, studying under Robert Cole (formerly of The National Ballet of Canada), Mariah Layne French, Daryse Osborne, Freddie Moore, Aaron Chen, Jeff Lewis, Lisa Cole, and Franklin White (formerly of Britain's Royal Ballet). She performed four and a half years with the Central Ohio Youth Ballet, including lead roles in The Nutcracker, Giselle, Swan Lake and Rodeo. Sara is a 2010 high school graduate and currently keeps busy pursuing her interests in photography and traveling. Sara has danced with Xclaim on-and-off since it's inception and enthusiastically continues to enhance Xclaim through her various talents.
